In VAC there is a critical error still saying that my files aren't backep up, by the backup job on Netbackup  was 100% fine

I want to move a closed partition approximately 500 GB of data to different drive on same EV server.We have collection running on this closed partition.

I have referred the article http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH35742 as per which we have to

1- Confirm all achived items have been backed up (SQL Server)

2-Set backup mode, stop services, and copy vault stores or vault store partition to new location (Enterprise Vault Server)

 3-Update the Vault Store location in SQL (SQL Server)

 4-Start services, confirm archived items can be opened, and clear backup mode (Enterprise Vault Server)

As per the Step 2 we need to stop EV services but my issue is I cannot stop it for this long time. So, will it be OK if I do as below steps to avoid downtime.

1- Confirm all achived items have been backed up (SQL Server).

2. Set backup mode on EV server.

3. Backup the closed partition and restore it on new location on same EV server.

4. Stop EV services and Update the Vault Store location in SQL (SQL Server).

5. Start services, confirm archived items can be opened, and clear backup mode (Enterprise Vault Server).

After upgrading from 9.0.4 to 10.0.3, users can no longer retrieve archived files using the placeholder.  After doing some troubleshooting, we found the following in a DTRACE on the file server:

The bolded server name in line 2 is an old server from our 7.x environment that has been decommissioned for several years.  Not sure where this is coming from but I think it is the root of our issue.  I think it is using this to query for the WebApp URL.

These are the Event Log entries:

The Placeholder service on FS4 says it can’t get the WebApp URL and then the request fails with a malformed URL.  You can see the malformed URL in the second error where I bolded it.

I'm trying to get my head around when I MUST have a single EV Site and when I can choose to have multiple EV Sites.

Is there a good whitepaper on this?

I've been advised to have multiple EV sites when globally dispersed sites are involved due to the potential issues with directory database connectivity and latency etc (Thanks Tony and JW for that one). But I'd like to better understand the criteria that means I MUST have a single site.

eg What if:

            The target exchange sites are in the same Exchange Organisation? 

            There a DAG nodes across the different regions from the same Exchange domain?

            There is a single domain across all regions?

                  Sub question: If customer wants to split Windows domain between regions in the future does that mean separate EV Sites will make this easier

            Customer wants a single point of management?

            Any other reasons that I've not meantioned     (I don't know what I don't know) :o)

Hello again everyone,

My EV server is running out of space, and it should stop to work soon.

The SQL Server is on the same server. I know that the best practice is to keep them separated but the costumer preferred this way, with the SQL server and EV Server together.

What I can do to free space on the EV server and put it back online again ?

I can create another SQL server for the next partitions, but what can I clean/move from the EV server ? What will keep growing ?

We are not using EV cache and the Index folders are on the EV server too.

I have then run the evsvr tool for Verify all Archive Objects. And here can I see that SISPartId 70DEE11A2366C63650E961D3371B2CA1~AB~90CD807E~00~1 related to the item that has been failing in the move processes not is found on the disk.

When I export Archive to PST I get the limitation as 1.5 GB max. I'm using EV 8.0.5

Do we have any Hot fix or workaround to increase the value of export.

Note: I know in EV 9.0. + we can do till 20 GB but as of now I cannot upgrade it to 9.0.4.

Hi,

We are migrating some placeholders from one volume to another using FSAUtility -pm option

However the process randomly stops with the following error

Error: Enterprise Vault File Placeholder Service not available while processing item \\?\UNC\server.domain.local\archive\file.jpg

Placeholder service is running fine. No errors on EV Server or File server.

Then if we stop the command and run again it allows us to restart the process.

Any idea?

I'm currently running Vault 9.0 with Exchange 2010 SP2, and want to double-check my upgrade plan.  The ultimate goal is to get from where I am today to 10.0.3.  I'm on 32-bit hardware today, so it will require a hardware refresh.

High-level overview:

Upgrade from 9.0 > 9.0.4 Hotfix 3 in-place on existing hardware (includes running new SetEVThrottling.ps1 script, and manually replacing files as part of the 9.0.4 > Hotfix 3 process)

Outlook add-in (9.0.1) will stay the same at this point.  Running Outlook 2010 across the board

Use the migration tool to go from 9.0.4 > 10.0.3 with a hardware migration included

Upgrade Outlook clients from 9.0.1 to 10.0.3 Outlook add-in

I'm obviously missing a lot of steps and details here, but I want to make sure the basics are correct.  The upgrade from 9.0 > 9.0.4 looks fairly simple, and I did not encounter any noticable issues in the lab.  9 > 10 seems a bit more complex, and I have not started planning this piece of the upgrade yet, other than the high-level path mentioned above.

Any pointers or tips would be welcome.

Mt Enterprise vault server is version 7.5 . I need to upgrade it to the latest. The operating system is Winf\dows Server 2003 R2.

Please let me know any direct upgade is possible to the latest.

What all are the requirements to upgrade to 10 in terms of OS and other erquirements.

Also in my EV database it consists of all users wjo left the company way back. Is it a good idea to change all of there archive daa into PST instead of keping it with EV which makes the database a huge one.

Our one of user  restored the archived items as orginal item in their mailbox and accidently deleted the mail which back we do not have.

I have also search that mail in serach explorer but could not find.

Second i am  able to seach that mail through windows search but not able to retrived

Is there still any way to retrive that mail from enterprise vault.

I have an environment that is experiencing issues with connecting to Exchange 2010 servers over a WAN link from an EV 9 server. The problem appears to be intermittent which has occured over the last 24 hours or so.

The environment consists of 3 clustered Exchange servers with the active nodes in the production site and the passive nodes in DR. The issue appeared to have started when the Exchange servers were failed over. So I stopped services, cleared out the queues, restarted server and all was fine until earlier today where it started up again.

I found that I was not able to open up any of the EV realated accounts in Outlook (got the username/password screen), but a server restart did the trick for about an hour or so when the issue reappeared. It hanged around for close to an hour before it disappeared again, but before it did I ran an DTrace on the ArchiveTask and found that it logged:

Event ID: 3422 An Enterprise Vault task is not correctly configured.The task account's mailbox must have an appropriate Exchange Server 2010 throttling policy applied.

I have since checked the Event Viewer and confirmed that those errors are being logged there too.

Now the strange thing is that the throttling policy has been checked and found to be set correctly in Exchange. To compound things a little bit, what has also been noticed is that archiving does run at a very slow rate which may be due to the fact that the WAN link is also heavly utilized.

I'm looking for some explananation to give back to the client and I'm thinking that it these issues be possible due to bandwidth constraints in the environment.

Would that be possible at all or could there be other factors that are at play here?

We are going through the trifecta right now migrating to MS Office 2013, and as result upgrading from EV and DA  9.0.2 to EV and DA 10.0.3 and then upgrading to SQL from 2005 to 2012

I think I have to sequence right:

Service Pack SQL 2005 to SP3 or 4; Upgrade EV 9.0.2 to EV 10.0.3;  Upgrade DA 9.0.2 to DA 10.0.3; Upgrade SQL 2005 to SQL 2012; upgrade to Office 2013 (We are staying put at Exchange Server 2010 for now).

I have been reading through 2 documents in preparation for the EV 10 upgrade:

1. Howto42445 Migrating Enterprise Vault to 64-bit hardware using the Server Settings Migration Wizard

2. Upgrading to Enterprise Vault 10.0.3

I was just wondering how thorough the Migration Wizard is in moving the data and settings over from EV 9.0.2 to EV10.0.3:

Does it handle the DA stuff, or is that a separate migration?

I read in the "Upgrading to" document that some adjustments need to be made to the Directory Database and the Storage Database, Does the Migration Wizard handle these adjustments or should I make those adjustments before running the Migration Wizard.

I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything when I run the Migration Wizard.

I have 2 Exchange mailbox servers, let's call them Exchange1 and Exchange2, in the same Exchange Org, and both of them are being archived by EV1 in Site1.  I want deploy another EV server and split things up so that I'll have EV1 archiving Exchange1 in Site1, and EV2 archiving Exchanage2 in Site2.  I'm running EV 10.0.2 and Exchange 2003.

I have some questions about this --

1) Can you have multiple EV sites and EV servers in the same Active Directory domain?

2) The Exchange2 archives that are currently on EV1 will need to be moved to EV2, and vice versa, so I won't have two EV servers trying to process the same Exchange server (which I know is not supported).  What would be the best way to move the archives from Site1/EV1 to Site2/EV2?  The Move Archives wizard?

3) To remove Exchange2 from Site1, is there anything more to do than clicking Delete on that server from the Targets node in the Admin Console?

I need to list all vaults and their last access times. I'm not sure if that's a powershell scipts or a SQL script. I have a request for this from management and I'm sure how to get the last access date.

What is the best way to recreate shortcuts without the system pulling all archive files that will include a date range?

User was just doing a bit of housekeeping in my mailbox and tried to delete some archived items.  I got this message for this item and a whole lot of other messages: 

Unable to delete the archived Item

File Name.xls

The Item is no longer available in the vault

do you want to just delete the shortcut

If user click cancel, the item get unvaulted from server and user will be able to delete the emails.

User haven’t had this before, and have normally been able to delete the item and short cut in one go, without needing to restore.  Our concern is that if a lot of colleagues get this, they will delete the shortcut but the message will stay.  If so, how would those separated messages be managed?
