Dynamic disk support and how to..?

I need a solution

Hi all,

We're performing a storage migration from an old SAN to something rather newer. This is the procedure we're going to do:

1) Add a new disk(s) from the new SAN equal in size to the current disk(s).

2) Make all appropriate disks Dynamic: Vault Stores, Indexing and MSMQs.

3) Mirror the disks at the OS level and wait for them to sync.

4) Break the mirror.

Can anyone who has done this tell me if it's gone wrong for them, or if EV will not support this, or any other caveats I might need to know about?

Hello,

Is it possible to restore Open\close partition to redirect  server with Backupexec 2012 without install Enterprise vault Server in a new Server ?

I have a problem ro restore partition to redirect server , its restore only 100Giga and after that we get a error.

Enterprise Vault safety copies & Centera

Hello,

A question on Enterprise Vault backup & safety copies when using EMC Centera. I'm aware that any archived email is not removed from the source mailbox until the centera replicates that content to the replication partner by configurable options at partition level. This mechanism protects the actual archived data should there be a failure, but how about SQL as there is no mechanism to track whether the SQL database for a given Vault store is backed up before a safety copy is removed from Mailbox?. I would like to know if there is an option to ensure EV checks both Centera backup (replication) and also SQL database backup before removing safety copies. I think the EV scripts will not be helpful here unlike it does when using NTFS based partitions...

Any thoughts around this?

Hello,

Looking various Discovery Accelerator documents, I seem to be possible to conduct federated search from Discovery Accelerator across multiple EV deployments, I would like to know what specific minimal permissions Discovery Accelerator service account needs on the enterprise Vault environment.

In most cases, we don’t encounter this as both EV and DA share the same service account. However, this will not be the case for federated search across multiple EV deployments..

Moving Enterprise Vault to a SQL instance

I need a solution

I need to move Enterprise Vault to a new location on a SQL server cluster machine and to a SQL Server instance.  I have read the technical article 35744 which does a great job of listing the steps I need to perform.  One step is updating the Fingerprint database with the new SQL Server instance name.  The current value for the finger print SQL server is a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).  Is a FQDN required for this record field?  Everywhere else in the move process I'm just entering <server\instance>.

Domino gateway server not starting

I need a solution

Hi, I need your help in getting the domino gateway server starting problem. Recently someone had changed password of vault admin, due to which all services of vault failed to start. I checked the KB online and updated the vault admin account details in admin console. Restarted all vault services and now they started without problem. But my domino server is not started, tried reboot of server but still fails.

Any idea if SQL needs to be updated somewhere?

Fingerprint Database Backup

Hello again,

I getting an error saying that my Fingerprint database is not backep up, but it is!

Actually the problem is when it checks if the database is backep up or not, the last check was 7 days ago, an even if I re-run the checks, it stays stucked on the last time and date of 7 days ago...

Hi, New to CA, but not EV. Planning an installation for a large customer with EV and Exchange in 3 geographically seperate locations\datacenters. Not sure yet if we'll have journal archiving in all 3 sites, but there will be in at least one. EV archving from Exchange 2010 mailboxes will be configured at each site. What is the best practice for the location of the CA server(s)? CA will be targeting all archived users in all regions. Should we have a CA server in every site? Lets say we'll have around 10,000 mailboxes in each site with 100% of them being archived.

manchmal wenn ich ein Ordner in Vault löschen möchte, kommt diese Meldung:

Ordner kann nicht gelöscht werden.JPG

 

obwohl der Ordner ist von mir erstellet worden!!

hat jemand eine Idee für dieses Problem??

Allow deletion of archived Elements after x days

Hello,

I´m searching for a possibility to allow user to delete archived items after a specific time range. We only use EV (EV 10 for Exchange) as technical archive to clean up mailboxes etc.

Mailboxes were scanned from EV to archive all Email Elements older than 2 weeks. After 90 days the user should have the possibility to delete mails with the archive explorer.

Maybe there is a possibility to change the retention category of elements after the given time and allow users to delete mails in this new retention category?

Enterprise Vault for migrated mailbox fails with 6768/6696

Exchange 2003 and 2010 in single forest. Enterprise Vault version 10.0.2

I'm trying to export an archive back to an original mailbox, which is migrated. But it fails because it still thinks the mailbox is on 2003 with event ID's 6768 and 6696

I've set the reg key synchinmigrationmode to 1. Do I need to restart everything before this takes effect?

SQL Maintenance - Index Rebuild - sort results in tempdb

Hello all,

In the several documents on creating a maintenance plan for maintaining proper indexes and statistics for the EV-databases, the screen to rebuild indexes has an option called "sort results in tempdb"

I've found the below regarding to SEPM databases, would that also be valid for EV-databases? In other words, can I enable this setting? I am specifically interested in the 'may be quicker' option, and also the (assumed) possibility that the tempdb size and disksize can be monitored and if necessary reconfigured.

"For an index to retrieve results effectively, it must remain in sorted order. When an index is rebuilt, it must resort the data in the index. This resorting of data is typically done in the database in which the index resides. You now have the option to sort these indexes in the tempdb database; this has advantages and drawbacks. If the tempdb on my system is on a different set of disks than my user databases, it may be quicker to sort the index in the tempdb database; however, this requires the index rebuild to use more disk space. If space is not an issue for your system, it might not be a bad idea to play around with this option to see if it speeds your rebuild time."

attachment icon (paper clip) disappears once message is opened

I need a solution

We're having what appears to be random issues with the paper clip icon disappearing from an archived message.  Once you go to message and highlight it, the icon disappears.  Opening the message, the attachment is there and can be opened.  However the paper clip icon is gone. 

We've uninstalled and reinstalled the add-in.  This did not resolve it.  I've provisioned and synchronized the mailbx.  This did not resolve it. I've ran the archivng task, this did not resolve it. 

Any ideas?

Hi

I'm looking for a couple of design thoughts on an EV solution exchange 2010 archiving across three sites.

Firstly these sites are global  (UK, US and New Zealand) with a total of 15,000 mailboxes (two thirds in US and the remaining one third split evenly between UK and NZ.

A single EVsite with directory database in US?...... what would be the pros and cons of having an EVsite per territory?

The US has 10000 mailboxes so I'm thinking 3 x mailbox servers as opposed to 2?  Plus 1 for journaling (approx 100,000 emails per day). Client also looking for e-discovery so a seperate server for DA?  would an indexing server be suitable here?? 

UK and NZ have circa 2500 mailboxes each so only 1 mailbox server, 1 for journaling at each location and 1 for DA

Each site has local SQL clusters already so I'm planning a single VSG per territory with SIS sharing at group level. Is there a 'rule of thumb' on number of vault stores for 10000 mailboxes (US location) perhaps based on number of DAG members\databses? seperate vault store for Journal but still within the same VSG?

Any thoughts and ideas greatfully accepted.

Exported archive still shows content

I need a solution

Hi all :)

I have exported an entire users archive back to his mailbox. When I look under ARCHIVES it still shows as being there. Also when I check under EV storage usage info it shows this users archive as still having almost 7000 items still in it

What gives??

but we dont sure that we just use the eDiscovery service is need use the Domino Gatway(EVDG) or not?

Vault Store DB limitations on archived items

Hi All

I believe in the performance guide for EV 7.5 there was mention of a suggested limitation of 100 million items per vault store db.

Does this still apply for later EV versions?

Is there any symantec best practises around this and how you would deal with a mailbox vault store? I.e. with journaling you can just create a new vault store & archive but its not that easy with user archives.

Hello.

 

We face the following problem on all our 4 EV servers :

Event ID 3411 An error has been reported by ConfigureMsgService.  It may be due to a problem contacting a Global Catalogue Server.

followed by

Event ID 3270 There is not enough free memory available to continue.  The Task for (Exchange Servername) will pause for a while before retrying.

RAM Memory is looking good (less then 10% used) and none of the disks is more than 30% occupied.

This errors occour  for hours until  task finaly fails. I attached a Dtrace output to this post.

Exchange Servers are all 2010 and EV Version is 9.0.2.

Maybe someone can help ?
